Drytooling

Drytooling is also practiced on the Kalymnos climbing wall during the winter months!

Drytooling is ice climbing without ice. Part of Kalymnos is covered with wood on which climbing holds and wooden blocks are attached. The rule of the game is that you may only hook your ice axes on the climbing holds and hit the wooden blocks. You may also kick the scaffolding wood wall with your crampons. You climb routes with ice axes and crampons that would otherwise be unclimbable. The climbing techniques are even more complex than with ice climbing.

The drytool wall on Kalymnos is unique in the Netherlands, so unique in fact that an international ice climbing event is organised there every year.

Current information
The opening of the first section of the wall is planned for 3 October next winter.
