UUnited Music Festival @ Sportcentrum Olympos
On Saturday, June 13, Olympos transforms into the beating heart of Utrecht student music during the UUnited Music Festival. In the University of Utrecht’s anniversary year, student music ensembles are heading into the city under the banner of UUnited On Tour. The UUnited Music Festival is the absolute highlight: nearly 400 student musicians will share the stage here for a summery day full of musical diversity.
The participating music ensembles share one important common ground: they are affiliated with Parnassos Cultuurcentrum, which is also the organizer of the festival and part of the University of Utrecht. For years, this cultural centre has served as a breeding ground for student talent in Utrecht. Rehearsals, experiments, and collaborations take place here, and it is precisely that energy that comes fully to life during the festival.
From classical masterpieces to pop classics, from harmonious choral music to swinging big band sounds and surprising collaborations: all seven leading student music ensembles will showcase just how rich and versatile the Utrecht music scene is. The festival marks the fifth edition of the UUnited Music Festival and can be experienced outdoors for the first time this year; featuring two stages, food trucks, bars, and hopefully plenty of sunshine.
The festival takes you on a musical journey. The day begins classically with the USKO, then takes on an exciting experimental edge with De Cantorij, and in the afternoon expands with Medusa & USConcert into a world full of musical stories, ranging from One Thousand and One Nights to Scottish folk. Towards evening, the tempo picks up, the audience sings along with Het Huisorkest, and everything culminates in an energetic, high-level finale with USBB and Dekoor: an explosive collaboration between big band and vocals that guarantees the audience won't be able to stand still.
